Alain Menu satisfied with Silverstone weekend

Alain Menu had another strong weekend in his Chrome Edition Restart Racing Volkswagen, with two fifths and a podium finish with third in Race 2. The Swiss is happy with the outcome of the Silverstone event, but believes he could have done more in the third heat.

“I just wanted a good weekend, which I had, I can’t complain,” said Menu to TouringCarTimes. “The third one was a bit disappointing because the potential was there for third, I overtook Fabrizio [Giovanardi] and Colin [Turkington] but I did not want to be nasty with the Italian, so I gave him room and that allowed Turkington and Jason Plato to overtake, the MG driver went really hard on the brakes and I think it cost Fabrizio a lot of places. Plato braked too late basically.”

Menu’s recent streak of good results put him in the top ten of the championship, giving him 77 of his total 173 points collected during the whole season. When asked if he has any regrets for not having had this level of competitiveness through the whole year, the Swiss said he knew he would not be competitive from the word go.

“It was always going to be tough, it’s a new team so I expected us to need a bit of time to be competitive, but to be honest there were some races in which I was competitive but I was pushed off the track, like in Croft with Plato, and I was in fifth. I think I could have had weekends like Silverstone and Rockingham even before, so I have no regrets.”

Menu has high expectations for the last race of the season at Brands Hatch, which Grand Prix layout is a favorite of the driver:

“Brands Hatch GP is a track I really like, I think potentially we can have a very good weekend again. The car is good and, like I said, I really love the track so hopefully a trouble-free weekend will lead to some more good results.”

Menu added another podium finish to his tally in Silverstone, bringing the count to two with the second place taken at Rockingham in Race 3.
