Robert Wickens loses his points after receiving a penalty

The Stewards were very busy this afternoon after the final race of the 2014 DTM season in Hockenheim. Robert Wickens, who hit Augusto Farfus causing his retirement on the last lap, was handed a 30-second penalty added to his total race time, dropping out of the points.

It was the last lap and BMW Team RBM’s Farfus, who had been the only BMW in the leading positions at the beginning of the race, was eighth. He was hit by Mercedes’ Robert Wickens, having to retire from the race. The Canadian was eighth at the chequered flag.

After hearing both drivers and examining the video, the Stewards considered Wickens responsible for the incident, giving him a drive-through penalty. As the race was already finished, this was automatically converted to 30 seconds added to his total race time, so Wickens has been demoted to 18th place.

The drivers who followed him in the classification have been promoted one position, with Audi’s Miguel Molina now finishing eighth, BMW’s António Félix Da Costa ninth and Mercedes’ Gary Paffett collecting the final point.
