Shane Van Gisbergen on pole for first Gold Coast race

Shane Van Gisbergen was fastest in the Saturday Top Ten Shootout ahead of the first Gold Coast 600 race. The Tekno Autosports driver lapped the circuit in 1:11.3995, beating Volvo Polestar Racing driver Scott McLaughlin, who was fastest in the first qualifying session, by 0.0753 seconds.

Tim Slade will line up third on the grid ahead of Garth Tander in fourth position.

Reigning champion Jamie Whincup survived a wall-touch on his lap and will start the race from fifth position, posting a lap time which was 0.3321 seconds from pole.

David Reynolds was the top Ford driver in sixth position ahead of the top Mercedes driver in the form of Lee Holdsworth in seventh position.

Nick Percat and Michael Caruso claimed positions eight and nine while a disappointed Craig Lowndes will start tenth after using too much kerb on his lap, meaning a disallowed lap time for the Triple Eight Race Engineering driver.

Both Ford Performance Racing cars of Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert missed the Top Ten Shootout after only managing eleventh and 19th position respectively in the first qualifying session.

The first race of the Gold Coast 600 weekend starts at 14:40 local time.
