Yvan Muller reprimanded for contact with Hugo Valente

Citroën Total WTCC driver Yvan Muller has been given a formal reprimand by the stewards for an incident with Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente in the second race at Suzuka.

The two French drivers came together during the race at Valente fought to hold off the Citroën trio, led by Muller, in the reversed grid race, with Valente holding fifth at the time and with Muller chasing in sixth ahead of his team-mates Sébastien Loeb and now already confirmed champion José María López.

Muller made a late lunge down the inside of Valente’s Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1, which knocked the 22-year-old French driver wide and would soon retire with suspension damage.

The stewards investigated the incident after the race and ruled that a breach of the sporting regulations had taken place and gave Muller a formal reprimand. Should he receive three, he will receive a grid drop for the next event.
