Yancheng hosts tense CTCC season finale this weekend

The eighth and final round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship takes place this weekend in Yancheng, which will decide both the drivers’ and mnaufacturers’ titles between Ford’s Martin Xie and Volkswagen’s Jiang Tengyi.

Yancheng is a 2.0km FIA Grade 4 temporary street circuit, located in the economic and technology zone of the city, consisting of 11 corners with a hairpin for the first turn.

Turns 10 and 11 are modelled on the Beijing street circuit which hosted the opening round of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The CTCC Super Production class title is up for grabs. Although Ford’s Martie Xie was banned from taking part in the last race due to an altercation with Volkswagen’s (and former Ford team-mate) Jiang Tengyi at the Shanghai circuit, Xie still has 9.5 point advantage over Jiang going into the weekend.

Ford will again be running a substitute driver in place of Darryl O’Young, who is unable to take part due to conflicting commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship, though would originally have been able to compete should the race have taken place as originally scheduled last weekend.

The battle is no longer just about Ford and Volkswagen however, with the Dong Feng Honda squad proving to be a strong contender after winning last time out, while Kia Racing continue to make progress after a tough start.

The two privateer squads of Team Work Motorsport, with their Citroën C-Elysées, and G Racing with their Chevrolet Cruzes, were closer to each other last time out, and will be battling hard for privateers honours at the final round this weekend.

Qualifying will be held at 13:20 (local time) on 1st November.
