Marco Wittmann elected as the 2014 ADAC Motor Racer of the Year

Marco Wittmann continues to receive accolades after his impressive second season in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. The 2013 Rookie of the Year became the 2014 Drivers’ champion after delivering four victories and dominating the season from the start. Now Wittmann has been named Motor Racer of the Year by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC), the main motor club in Germany.

The vote was held by an eight-people jury, composed by ADAC officers Jürgen Fabry (cars), Dieter Junge (motorbikes), Manfred Rückle (motorboats) and Prof. Dr. Mario Thiessen, former Director of BMW Motorsport, and now officer for classic vehicles. Also present in the panel were journalists René Hofmann, Volker Koerdt, Bianca Leppert and Klaus Smentek.

ADAC Sports President, Hermann Tomczyk, father of Wittmann’s fellow BMW DTM driver Martin Tomczyk, said:  “Marco Wittmann delivered in impressive style throughout the year and dominated the DTM season. The fact that he succeeded in doing so in the only second year of his DTM career demonstrates his extraordinary talent and the maturity he already possesses despite being just 24 years old.”

Wittmann will receive his award, the big “Christophorus”, at the ADAC Sport Gala, taking place in Munich on the 22nd of November, and joins an exclusive list of winners with names such as Walter Röhrl, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and former DTM champion Bernd Schneider.
