Martin Xie excluded, Jiang Tengyi wins 2014 CTCC for VW

Changan Ford FRD Team’s Martin Xie was excluded from the final round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship at Yancheng after originally finishing sixth and claiming the drivers’ title, and with race winner Zhang Zhen Dong also disqualified, Jiang Tengyi inherits both the race win and the drivers’ title.

Xie and Zhang were both excluded when their Ford Focus and Volkswagen Polos respectively failed post race scrutineering when it was found their air restrictor and turbo boost settings didn’t comply with the regulations.

Changan Ford driver Rainey He was also disqualified from the race due to his last lap crash with his team-mate Martin Xie.

Wang Rue, who had finished third for Volkswagen and would have been promoted to second behind Jiang, received a 30 second penalty for cutting Turn 12 and ended up classified ninth in the revised order.

As a result, Jiang Tengyi wins the 2014 CTCC drivers’ title with 60 points, four ahead of Changan Ford FRD’s Andy Yan, who now finishes second in the championship and the season finale, with Martin Xie relegated to third.

Sunny Wong now claims third for the privateer Team Work squad in Yancheng in the Citroën C-Elysée, with the G Racing Chevrolet of Jason Zhang and the Kia K3S of Larry Lin Le Feng completing the top five.

With the penalties for Zhang Zhen Dong and Wang Rue, Volkswagen may now have won the drivers’ title, but have now lost the manufacturers’ title, which now goes to Changan Ford, though the results are provisional should there be any protests filed.
