Macau could be back on the WTCC calendar after all

The Guia Race of Macau could be back on the 2015 WTCC calendar after a last minute deal is believed to have been brokered at the weekend.

The race was set to be dropped from the WTCC calendar in 2015, with a night race in a middle east country set to be become the new finale for the championship, meaning after ten years, the only constant on the calendar would have been dropped.

However, it’s now believed that last minute negotiations opened up at the weekend after the WTCC organisers had skipped the original deadline to renew the deal two months ago.

It’s believed former WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti was en route to Macau following the race to negotiate the possibility for the TC3 International Series, which he is set to take charge of next season, to host the touring car event at the 62nd Macau Grand Prix next November, but a change of direction from the WTCC could see the Eurosport Events-run championship back for an 11th consecutive year after all.

Eurosport Events COO Francois Ribeiro made a speech at the prize giving ceremony on Sunday night, thanking the organisers for ten years at the Chinese special administrative region, and said he hoped there would be many more.

The final calendar for the 2015 WTCC season is due to be released by the World Motor Sport Council early next month.
