Former STCC and Superstars champion convicted of doping

2012 STCC and Superstars champion Johan Kristoffersson has been convicted of doping after taking a steroid substance ahead of a rallycross world championship event earlier this year.
”This is of course not nice. At the same time, it is good to get it out of the way. It has been stressful with all the trips back and forth. It has been psychologically demanding,” said Johan Kristoffersson to nwt.se.

Kristoffersson’s father Tommy Kristoffersson states that his son suffered from facial paralysis ahead of the rallycross round in Belgium and was given the cortisone substance Prednisolon, a substance prohibited by the FIA.

”There was no choice but to give Johan the medicine. The mistake was that we did not let the FIA know and seek dispensation, we would have gotten it (permission) in that case,” said Tommy Kristoffersson.

The 25-year-old former STCC Volkswagen driver was disqualified from the race in Belgium and lost the points and prize money he collected, along with a warning. The outcome could have been worse as Kristoffersson faced a two-year ban initially.

”We were of course afraid of that, it would have been a disaster,” said Johan Kristoffersson.

Johan Kristoffersson claimed the 2012 STCC title for Volkswagen and the 2012 Superstars title for Audi before moving on to rallycross with Volkswagen Sweden in 2013.
