Airport race in Skövde confirmed for 2015 STCC

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship will race on a new airport circuit in the Swedish town Skövde next year.
”There are a lot of people living in the area with a great motor interest,” said Jonas Lundin, Managing Director of STCC AB to svt.se.

The STCC organisation has not yet revealed the date, circuit layout or length but has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow when the complete calendar is expected to be revealed as well.

”It is going to be a tight circuit with a lot of concrete barriers, but also with long straights and good overtaking opportunities,” said Lundin.

STCC raced at the Östersund Airport in 2012 and 2013, an event which completed a reconstruction after its first year and went bankrupt after the 2013 season.

The Skövde race joins Anderstorp as the two so far only confirmed races of the 2015 STCC calendar. The STCC organisation has stated that the calendar will be expanded from six to seven races next year.
