Tony Gilham buys Toyota Avensis from United Autosports

Tony Gilham looks set to return to the British Touring Car Championship in 2015 after striking a deal to buy a Toyota Avensis from United Autosports, along with one of their TOCA BTCC Licenses (TBLs).

Gilham, who was most recently involved in the championship as a team owner in 2013, last raced in 2012, taking a podium at Donington Park in a Super 2000 Honda Civic.

However, the deal has not been officially confirmed by series bosses TOCA as they have to formally ratify the transfer of a TBL from one team to another, something which is yet to happen.

The sale of the Avensis, which was reported in Motorsport News today, has come about following United Autosports’ co-owner Zak Brown’s decision to put his share of the BTCC team up for sale.

Gilham was due to drive for Rotek Racing in the 2014 season finale at Brands Hatch, but the team had to withdraw its Audi S3 due to damage sustained in an accident for Robb Holland at the previous round at Silverstone.
