Sam Tordoff to dovetail BTCC with ELMS campaign

New West Surrey Racing driver Sam Tordoff has announced plans to dovetail his BTCC campaign with a season in the European Le Mans Series.

The 25-year-old has joined JMW Motorsport, where he will race a Ferrari 458 alongside George Richardson and Robert Smith in his debut outing in GTs.

Tordoff tested for the team at Estoril at the end of 2014, and joins new team-mate Andy Priaulx in signing up for a dual touring car and GT programme.

Tordoff said: “I have wanted to get into GT racing now for a number of years, and this year the stars have aligned and it’s finally possible. It is important for me to try and break the mould and show that I am not just a touring car driver. I believe with the right people and resources – that JMW have, I can have a successful GT career.

“The car is by far the best thing I have ever driven and certainly a big step up from what I have been driving up to this point.”

There is one calendar clash for Tordoff to contend with, as the ELMS meeting at Paul Ricard is on the same weekend as the BTCC meeting at Rockingham.
