Marcos Ambrose disappointed after first Clipsal 500 qualifying

V8 Supercars returnee Marcos Ambrose struggled in the first V8 Supercars qualifying of 2015 at the Clipsal 500 and ended up at the very tail of the grid.
“Definitely not the result we were looking for. The car was quite good in the morning on old tyres and I thought P15 was about where we should have been,” said Ambrose.

The former champion, driving the new Ford Falcon FG X model, only managed 24th position in both sessions, 1.5 and 2.0 seconds from pole respectively.

”With new tyres and the track getting faster the balance in the car was missing. I was getting a lot of understeer and with the sessions so short we just did not achieve an optimum set up,” said Ambrose.

DJR Team Penske co-owner Roger Penske downplayed the expectations for Ambrose and the team at a press conference in Adelaide.

“We’d love to be in the top half by the end of the season, let’s put it that way. I know Marcos with his learning curve is going like this (steep) and we as a team are doing exactly the same thing. I just don’t want anybody to leave here today thinking we are walking in here thinking we are going to be sitting on the podium every weekend, that is not the case. But we are going to be a competitor, we want to be a first class team here to compete and I tell you we are going to the tools and the people together to try and be a winner here over the next couple of years,” said Penske.
