Increased success ballast regulations for 2015 BTCC season

The amount of success ballast applied to top finishers in the British Touring Car Championship has been significantly increased for the 2015 season in order to be more representative of the NGTC regulations.

The previous success ballast amounts had remained constant from the S2000 regulations, but the organisers felt that keeping the current ballast regulations were not as effective with the higher base weight of the NGTC cars.

Race winners will now receive an extra 30kg of ballast, meaning an overall weight penalty of 70kg will be applied to the top finisher. Ballast weights will then decrease throughout the top ten, with penalties applied as follows:

1st – 75kg, 2nd – 66kg, 3rd – 57kg, 4th – 48kg, 5th – 39kg, 6th – 33kg, 7th – 27kg, 8th – 21kg, 9th – 15kg, 10th – 9kg.

The alteration of ballast regulations comes alongside a number of slight adjustments to the rulebook, including a great balance of performance between rear-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive cars.
