Lucas Auer tops second day of testing in Estoril

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters teams were on duty at Estoril for the second day of testing this week. The main goal for everybody was to progress with setup work, with plenty of on track action.

Lucas Auer was the fastest man at the wheel of his Mercedes C63 DTM, setting a best time of 1:32.748, obtained during the morning session. The rookie completed 74 laps.

Rain haltered progress in the morning, causing the organisers to bring forward one hour the lunch break. The afternoon started with a wet track, but it dried out progressively, with most drivers setting their personal bests during the latter part of the day.

Audi Sport’s Nico Müller was second fastest completing a total of 92 laps, only a few thousands ahead of Mike Rockenfeller, who only took part during the morning session.

Miguel Molina was fourth fastest, ahead of Adrien Tambay, making it four Audi RS 5 DTM in the top 5, with Martin Tomczyk being the fastest BMW M4 DTM in sixth position, 0.295 seconds off the pace.

Timo Scheider, seventh, was only present in the afternoon, followed by Mercedes’ Maximilian Götz and Christian Vietoris. Augusto Farfus completed the top 10.

Reigning champion Marco Wittmann was a discreet 11th, albeit only 0.505 seconds off the pace, completing essential setup and development work.

Tomorrow will be the last day of testing in Estoril, with Tom Blomqvist, Antonio Félix Da Costa and Timo Glock on duty for BMW, Daniel Juncadella and Gary Paffett for Mercedes and Edoardo Mortara at hand for Audi.
