Adam Morgan hoping second Mercedes can help achieve top results

Ciceley Racing’s Adam Morgan will be looking to pick up where he left off at the start of the 2015 British Touring Car season and believes that having a second Mercedes A-Class on the grid will only improve their chances of top results.

Morgan took his first BTCC win, albeit following a time penalty for the on-the-road winner Jason Plato, in round 29 of the 2014 season around the Brands Hatch GP circuit, and will be hoping that when he returns to the scene in April he will be able to show similar pace.

“If we can start where we finished last year we should be in good stead,” Morgan told TouringCarTimes, speaking at the Clio Cup launch day. “Winter development has gone well, we’ve made some positive changes and I think having both Mercs at the top of the time sheet at media day is really encouraging.”

The 2015 season marks the first time that two Mercedes cars will take to the grid, with Aiden Moffat’s family team running a Ciceley-built A-Class.

“Aiden’s a really quick driver, no doubt about it, his one lap speed is immense,” added Morgan. “We can use data together, share data in qualifying which helps out massively. Looking forward we’re both quick drivers so hopefully we can make some inroads to the front.”

He also added that despite making significant gains over the winter and feeling happy with the car that the team are taking nothing for granted and that they’ll only know how their pace truly stacks up against the competition come qualifying at Brands Hatch.

“Testing isn’t a true reflection on pace,” he concluded. “You never know what anyone’s carrying ballast wise or boost wise, we’ll find out at Brands. Hopefully we’ll be aiming for the top six this year but it’s always kind of one race at a time deal in touring cars. you never know what’s going to happen.”
