Craig Lowndes leads Triple Eight 1-2 to 99th victory

Craig Lowndes headed a Triple Eight Race Engineering 1-2 with team mate Jamie Whincup in the second race in Tasmania to take his 99th V8 Supercars victory.

Lowndes started from pole position, like in the first race, and held the lead from lights to flag despite a safety car session early on.

The safety car was caused by Super Black Racing driver Andre Heimgartner who unfortunately threw away a strong qualifying position, fifth, and out braked him self in the hairpin and lost two laps.

James Courtney continues to head the championship for Holden Racing Team after finishing third with Ford driver David Reynolds scoring another strong finish in fourth position.

Garth Tander secured the final top five position ahead of Melbourne GP winner Mark Winterbottom in sixth and Mercedes driver Will Davison in seventh.

Shane Van Gisbergen made his way past Scott McLaughlin early on to take eighth. Volvo Polestar Racing managed to change engine between the two races to get McLaughlin out onto the grid. The Kiwi lost two positions early on, but managed to secure ninth ahead of Fabian Coulthard.

The V8 Supercars weekend in Tasmania continues tomorrow with practice, qualifying and a final race.
