Leonel Pernía takes pole for Super TC 2000 opener at Junín

Renault Sport driver Leonel Pernía has taken pole position for the opening round of the 2015 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at Junín

Pernía secured the spot with a time of 1:21.822, three-tenths of a second faster than his closest rival, team-mate Emiliano Spataro, both driving an all-new Renault Fluence, introduced for this season.

“The car was good and allowed me to drive well, be calm and get the pole,” said Perníá. “I was surprised with the braking power of the new car, which ran brilliantly. That makes things much easier. We must highlight the work of the team that worked all summer to make new cars and the fruits are today, with this result,”

Agustín Canapino was third fastest in the Peugeot Total 408, just half a second off of Pernía’s pace, while Matías Munoz Marchesi was fourth fastest in the Equipo YPF Chevrolet Cruze.

Reigning champion Néstor Girolami was fifth quickest in the second quickest of the Peugeot Total team’s 408s, ahead of Damian Fineschi in the Peugeot Junior team 408.

Lucas Colombo Russell was an impressive seventh on his Super TC 2000 debut, breaking into Q3 in the private Pro Racing Fiat Linea, while Chevrolet’s Norberto Fontana, Toyota’s Rafael Morgenstern and Equipo Fiat Petronas driver Facundo Chapur completed the top ten.

The 24 lap race is due to get underway at 12:30 ART on Sunday.
