Adam Morgan pleased with Mercedes race pace

Adam Morgan was pleased with the progress of the Ciceley Racing Mercedes A-Class at the Brands Hatch BTCC opener, despite a slight lack of single-lap pace in qualifying.

The Mercedes driver could only manage twelfth in qualifying around the tight, short Indy Circuit layout, only managing to gain one position to finish in eleventh at the chequered flag.

New qualifying rules for the second race now mean a driver’s fastest lap in race one decides his grid slot for race two, which allowed Morgan to jump up a couple of spots compared to his qualifying and race one performance as he lined up in ninth for the final encounter.

“A little bit disappointed with qualifying in P12,” Morgan told TouringCarTimes. “I’m not disappointed but hoped to get a better result in race one than eleventh. To finish eleventh I was battling all race and we still managed to qualify ninth so I think other tracks our race pace will definitely come through. We’ll be up there come race two and up at the front. I think race two showed where our car should be.”

Morgan went on to finish race two in fourth, before taking seventh in the final race of the year, having started seventh following the top ten reversal. The trio of solid results has left the Ciceley Racing driver feeling confident ahead of the second round at Donington Park.

“I think Donington will suit our car more than Brands here,” continued Morgan. “At the more faster flowing tracks our car will be quicker and better. After this weekend it’s definitely encouraging for Donington.”
