Colin Turkington secures Donington Park pole

Colin Turkington will start from pole position at Donington Park after setting a 1:09.483 ahead of Gordon Shedden and pre-session favourite Jason Plato.

Jason Plato had been hotly tipped to take pole following his dominant performances in the two free practice sessions, but a pair wonder laps from Colin Turkington and Gordon Shedden spoiled the two-time champion’s party. No matter how Plato tried he just could improve in the dying minutes of the session.

Just 0.069 separated the first three positions, while Adam Morgan and Aiden Moffat continued to show the impressive pace the Mercedes cars were showing in free practice, with the pair qualifying in fourth and ninth respectively.

Andrew Jordan rounded out the top five, despite a couple of excursions and a spin throughout the thirty minute session, while it was a session to remember for Power Maxed Racing with Josh Cook, taking his Chevrolet Cruze to sixth and Dave Newsham qualifying tenth.

Matt Neal rounded out a good session for Honda as he took seventh in the new Honda Civic Type R, with Sam Tordoff taking eighth.

Andy Priaulx had a nightmare session, pulling off just after the halfway stage with a mechanical problem and bringing out the red flag. The Brands Hatch pole sitter failed to set a competitive lap time, only managing a 1:11.535, good enough for 23rd.

There was also the first on-track appearnce of 2015 for Dan Welch, but the Proton only managed to complete an outlap before coming back in to the garage.
