Impressive qualifying performance from Power Maxed Racing

The Power Maxed Racing drivers were happy with their performance in qualifying, although Josh Cook believes he could have gone even faster and improved on his sixth placed starting slot.

The pair of Chevrolets both qualified in the top ten, with Dave Newsham setting the tenth best time of the half hour session. The pace had been there for much of the day, with both drivers in the top ten in FP1 before dropping a little in FP2.

“The car’s been mega today,” Newsham told TouringCarTimes. “It wasn’t quite there in FP1 but we made a change and we got it really nicely hooked up. If it wasn’t for Josh being P6 I’d be bleedin’ delighted! I think we’ve got a really good race car, if we can keep the balance from today we should be able to keep the tyres going all day so i’m quite looking forward to tomorrow.”

Newsham played down his chances in the races as Donington isn’t one of his personal favourite circuits, opting to aim for solid results than go for podium results.

“This is my bogey track,” said Newsham. “I’ve never gone well here so I’m just going for three clean races for me. I’m just going to take every race as it comes, stay out of trouble and see how it comes. If we can get the reverse grid for race three that’d be great.”

Josh Cook, on the other hand, was slightly disappointed with sixth place, believing he could have gone even quicker had he been able to find clear air and put in a cleaner lap.

“There was probably a bit more time to come out of it to be honest,” Cook told TouringCarTimes. “I made a mistake on my fastest lap, the second set didn’t go quite as well, there was a lot of traffic out there. Credit to the team, the car’s spot on, to be P6 on my second weekend I can’t be unhappy about that but that’s not the way I function, I want to be winning.”
