Jason Plato continues to dominate Donington Park timesheets

Jason Plato dominated the second practice session at Donington Park as he continued his form from the morning practice.

Plato was the first driver to set a competitive time in the session with a 1:10.674 in the first ten minutes. He continued to pump home lap after lap at the top of the sheets, resulting in an unbeatable 1:09.553.

The closest of Plato’s challengers was Honda’s Gordon Shedden, as was the case in FP1. Shedden became only the second driver of the day to dip in to the sub-70-second lap barrier, putting in a time of 1:09.984.

Behind the top two, Andrew Jordan, Colin Turkington and Aron Smith were separated by just eight hundredths of a second to fill out the top five placings.

It was a strong session for Mike Bushell, who took the AmD Tuning Ford Focus to sixth, while Tom Ingram, Aiden Moffat, Matt Neal and Jack Goff rounded out the top ten.

There was a noticeable lack of pace for the West Surrey Racing BMWs, with Sam Tordoff being the fastest of the trio, setting the 14th best time. Rob Collard ended 19th while Andy Priaulx had to settle for 20th.

As happened in FP1, the second practice session was split by a red flag, this time caused by a stranded Stewart Lines on the exit of Redgate, believed to be caused by the fuel pressure issue which kept him out of the morning session.

Hunter Abbott and Dan Welch were the only drivers who failed to make it on track, with Welch’s team “playing with the computer” keeping him stuck in the garage while Abbott’s mechanics rushed to get his car fixed for qualifying.
