Derek Palmer and Andy Wilmot out for the day

Derek Palmer Jr and Andy Wilmot will both miss the two remaining races of the day after they suffered engine failures.

Palmer’s Infiniti Q50 let go on the Scot coming in to the pits at the end of the cool down lap for race one, after suffering from a lack of power during the race itself.

“Not 100% sure what it is yet,” said Palmer. “We’ve got to speak to Swindon to see what the deal is . Initially pulled the data off and there’s nothing there that stands out. Between qualifying and the race today we changed the car to change the balance and the balance has improved again, but from the very start I was on the radio complaining about a lack of power. We couldn’t get sixth gear anywhere, it just wasn’t pulling so it was a bit confusing. There were no warning signals on the dash, everything was reading as it should.

“The one thing that we can take from it is that with the changes made our corner entry and exit speeds are quicker than we went in qualifying which is exactly what I was looking for. On the flipside its very disappointing to not be able to capitalise on that and be out for race two or three. It’s motorsport isn’t? Yesterday I was happy to be in the 1:11s making that progress again, and today it’s the other side of the coin, you take the rough with the smooth.”

Andy Wilmot will also miss the remaining two races after the team’s Proton Gen-2 engine suffered yet another setback.
