Thed Björk fastest in morning session of Knutstorp test

Reigning champion Thed Björk was fastest in the morning session of the first official Scandinavian Touring Car Championship test of 2015. The Volvo Polestar Racing driver lapped the circuit in 57.592, a mere 0.065 seconds faster than Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson.

The top four driver were covered within 97 thousands of a second, with Volvo driver Fredrik Ekblom with the third fastest time and BMW driver Fredrik Larsson fourth.

Four time STCC champion Richard Göransson was fastest of the Saab drivers for Team Tidö in fifth position, just below five tenths of a second from the top time.

Emma Kimiläinen claimed sixth fastest time, just over one second behind Björk, with Erik Jonsson in seventh and Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte in eighth.

The ninth fastest driver was listed as TBA in the official results, driving for Team Kia, with information to TouringCarTimes suggesting that it is previous Formula Renault driver Erik Johansson.

Kia newcomer Kevin Aabol rounded off the top ten, 2.469 seconds from the top time.

A total of 12 drivers took part in the test, for the first time running on Michelin tyres, the new official tyre supplier to the championship.

There was a couple of red flag sessions due to minor spins, but with Team Tidö driver Roger Samuelsson spinning off and into the barriers in corner three, causing a lengthy recovery period.

The test resumes at 13.00 CET for the afternoon session, with the test continuing tomorrow with a further two sessions.
