BMW seeks to continue winning in 2015

The 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season is just three days away, with the opening round taking place this weekend in Hockenheim, and teams and drivers have their weapons ready.

BMW is eager for the the new challenge ahead, with a substantial change in the racing conditions. This season, every event will have two races awarding full points, and each driver will only have four sets of standard tyres for the whole weekend.

Reigning champion Marco Wittmann leads the operation from the Bavarian manufacturer, staying at Team RMG, winners of the Team’s trophy last year. In an effort to not change what has worked well, Maxime Martin, Rookie of the Year 2014, will remain as Wittmann’s team mate at the Belgian squad.

BMW also welcomes Tom Blomqvist on board, after Joey Hand’s departure. The Briton will be at Team RBM, together with long time works driver Augusto Farfus.

Bruno Spengler and António Félix Da Costa have switched squads, with the Canadian joining Timo Glock at Team MTEK, with the Portuguese partnering Martin Tomczyk at Team Schnitzer.

The Bavarian manufacturer hopes to continue their winning form, having won six titles since their comeback in 2012, with the DTM versions of the M3 and M4. The key is to remain strong and competitive in the new format, action packed, racing weekends

Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt thinks Hockenheim will set the tone for the season: “We cannot wait for the start of the DTM season. We have worked very hard over the past few months to make our overall package of drivers, teams and the BMW M4 DTM even stronger for 2015. That is absolutely essential, as you can never afford to rest on your laurels in this fiercely-competitive seriesIt will be exciting for everyone involved to see how the DTM weekend in Hockenheim pans out. The new two-race format promises even more action.”

Stefan Reinhold, Team Principal at BMW Team RMG, sees his winning squad as ready as it’s going to be for the new challenges ahead: “After the great year we had in 2014, we are obviously highly motivated for the new DTM season. I am very much looking forward to the new race format, which will produce a lot of action for the fans. It will definitely be interesting for us teams too. We are well prepared and go into the new season full of positive energy.”

Marco Wittmann, on his part, chooses to remain realistic and cautious, not taking for granted any chances of success: “There is obviously a lot of anticipation ahead of Hockenheim, as it has been a long winter break. On the whole, the tests have been positive and I think we have had a good preparation. Despite this, you can never be 100 per cent sure how you compare to the opposition until the first race. The season-opener will definitely be a spectacle for the fans. And it goes without saying that I would love to follow on from last season’s success in Hockenheim, given the opportunity.”
