Dusan Borkovic on top in ETCC free practice in Hungary

Serbian driver Dusan Borkovic finished the free practice session for the FIA European Touring Car Cup race in Hungary in first position, setting a last lap flyer in drying conditions to finish ahead of the identical SEAT León Cup Racer of Mat’o Homola, while Krenek Motorsport’s Petr Fulín sat out of the 30-minute session.

Borkovic had set the early pace in the B3 Racing/NIS Petrol Racing SEAT, but was demoted by the 20-year-old Homola with just under ten minutes remaining as the times began to tumble as the Hungarian circuit finally started to dry out after persistent rain all morning.

Andreas Pfister briefly put his SEAT on top of the time sheets, before a charging lap from Peter Rikli in the ageing Honda Civic FD put the Super 2000 class car in first for a brief moment, before Pfister grabbed the position back with the first time under 2:10 seen all day in the touring car classes.

With the chequered flag now out, Mat’o Homola put in a fast final flying lap to go faster still with a time of 2:06.182, but former WTCC racer Dusan Borkovic still had time for one more shot, and grabbed P1 back right at the end of the session with a time of 2:05.495.

Rikli ended the session as the fastest of the TC2 class drivers in fourth in his RIkli Motorsport Honda, with David Kajaia, who had earlier been given the mechanical black flag after having left the pits with the rear door open, fifth fastest and the top placed TC2T class runner for Liqui Moly Team Engstler.

In the Super 1600 class, is was Niklas Mackschin who was fastest in the Ford Fiesta, 12th overall and 13.5 seconds off of the ultimate pace.

Qualifying for the first round of the 2015 ETCC is scheduled to take place at 15:45 CET.
