Colin Turkington pleased with steady Thruxton points haul

Colin Turkington was pleased to have earned some valuable championship points in a quiet but steady weekend at Thruxton.

The reigning champion qualified his Team BMR Volkswagen CC in ninth on the grid before taking three points scoring results, finishing seventh, fifth and fourth in the three races around the fast Hampshire circuit.

“It was a steady weekend,” Turkington told TouringCarTimes. “I haven’t done anything spectacular but I’ve scored good points which is important in this championship. It wasn’t the easiest of weekends, we haven’t had the quickest car, but that’s how this championship goes, it’s hard to be competitive every weekend.”

The team showed improvement throughout the race day, with Turkington consistently moving up the order and improving his result each time he went out on track, a feat he owes to his team making slight changes to the car between each race.

“We tried to improve the car in every race and you go out hopeful that you can be really strong,” he added. “We have made the car better, but we still need another step. We’ve been trying to be at the sharp end but ultimately we’re shy a couple of tenths, it’s still been a good day’s work.”

Turkington now goes in to the next round of the season at Oulton Park in second place in the standings, a circuit that the Volkswagen enjoyed a strong performance at in 2014. Turkington remained realistic, however, but still has his eyes placed firmly on another trip to the podium.

“I’m always aiming for the podium,” he said. “Everything’s moved on from last year and this car’s quite different, but I’d certainly like to bring home a few trophies, definitely.”
