Jordi Gené carries maximum ballast as entry list for Monza confirmed

Team Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Jordi Gené will carry the maximum ballast for this weekend’s TCR International Series race in Monza as the Spanish driver picked up the most points two weeks’ ago in Portimao, while Michel Nykjaer will the only other driver to carry success ballast as Portimao race one winner Nicki Thiim’s not returning to the series.

Gené will carry 30kg of ballast on his SEAT León Cup Racer, while Target Competition’s Michel Nykjaer will carry 10kg on his SEAT as well. Although Nicki Thiim scored the second most points in Portugal, with the Dane not returning following the early conclusion of Audi’s TCR programme with the Engstler Motorsport team, the 20kg ballast allocation will not be applied this weekend, but should Thiim take part in any other races he will carry the penalty then.

The 19 car entry list for this weekend has also been revealed, with Zengo Motorsport returning after a two race absence, fielding a pair of SEAT León Cup Racers for Davide Roda and Zsolt Dávid Szabó, and with Target Competition expanding to four cars, adding another SEAT for Francesco Riva.

Jordi Oriola is scheduled to be back in one of Campos Racing’s Opel Astra OPCs with the other driver to be confirmed, with Proteam Racing also set to make their first true appearance of the season with the upgraded Ford Focus ST built by Onyx Race Engineering, but have not yet announced their driver for the weekend as Diego Romanini, who took part in Free Practice at the opening event in Sepang, is committed to a different race in Austria.
