Campos Racing unsure about driver line up as Ford encounter problems

Campos Racing are testing an updated version of the Opel Astra OPC in Monza, Italy, during the test day for the TCR International Series.

The only driver behind the wheel at the moment is Fernando Monje, who is also the sports director of the Spanish outfit. “At the moment we are not sure who is going to be in the car for the weekend,” said Monje to TouringCarTimes. “I am testing some updated parts, but we will have to wait until the end of the day before making a decision about the driver line-up.”

A broken driveshaft stopped the Spaniard from doing as much running as he would have liked:”We were probably a bit too aggressive on camber settings, which unfortunately made the driveshaft prone to failure. I hit a kerb and that was it.” Campos have worked hard to fix the car and are currently on track in the last hour before the lunch break. Oscar Nogués will not take part in the Monza weekend.

The Onyx-built Ford Focus is still encountering gearbox issues. Tom Boardman has come to Italy to shake the car down, as several Italian drivers had been in talks with Proteam to be behind the wheel for the weekend. TouringCarTimes understands the participation in the weekend is still in doubt, as the gearbox has been improved since Sepang, but not quite enough to perform at the required level.

Testing will continue until 12.00, with another one-hour session scheduled for the afternoon.
