Gianni Morbidelli tops Monza Free Practice 2

Gianni Morbidelli was fastest in the second Free Practice session in Monza, Italy. The WestCoast Racing driver came home ahead of Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Pepe Oriola, with Kevin Gleason in third in the sister Honda Civic TCR. The Italian’s advantage was 7 tenths in this session.

Sergey Afanasyev came home fourth ahead of a surprising Fernando Monje, who made good use of the slipstream in his Campos Racing Opel Astra OPC.

Jordi Gené came sixth ahead of fellow SEAT driver Mikhail Grachev, with championship leader Stefano Comini in eighth ahead of the sole Zengo Motorsport SEAT León Racer remaining of Zsolt Szàbo. Igor Skuz completed the top ten for WestCoast Racing.

All three Target Competition drivers had minor offs, including Michel Nykjaer who risked an accident with his team-mates at Lesmo 1 as the three were practicing slipstreaming ahead of qualifying. Andrea D’Amico also went straight at the Variante Ascari.

Both Target Competition and Craft-Bamboo Lukoil Racing spent the entire session preparing for qualifying, by running in a three-car train each.

Qualifying is scheduled for 15.00 local time, with the usual 20-minutes Q1 followed by Q2, which will feature the best 12 from the first segment.
