Audi happy to extend points lead after a difficult race

Audi Sport had a complicated race today at the Norisring, struggling to maintain their rivals pace. Jamie Green was their only driver in the points, finishing in seventh position.

Green started from the third position on the grid. A strong shower fell over Norisring just before the race, but stopped after a few minutes, with the Briton choosing to remain on slicks. All his team mates, with the only exception of Mike Rockenfeller followed suit.

There was a big collision in the first corner, where several cars were involved. Green lost many positions there, but the most affected driver was Miguel Molina, who was hit and then collected by Lucas Auer. Additionally, the Spaniard suffered a problem with the start system in his RS 5 DTM that caused a jump start, leading to a drive-through penalty.

Jamie Green was able to recover positions, unlike the rest of his team mates. The Audi Sport Team Rosberg driver finished in seventh place, scoring six points, which allow him to extend his lead in the championship over Mattias Ekström , who could only be 17th, and Edoardo Mortara, 11th at the flag.

Dieter Gass, Head of DTM for the four-ring manufacturer, was pragmatic about the result: “That we’re losing some of the performance weight and that Jamie Green has extended his lead of the standings are positives. The right tire choice was difficult and even in retrospect wasn’t a clear-cut decision. Jamie made the best of his situation and managed to extend his lead of the championship. Qualifying wasn’t good enough for a better team result.”

Jamie Green leads the Drivers’ standings with 81 points, 23 more than Mattias Ekström and Edoardo Mortara.
