Dusan Borkovic says his pole position lap could have been even faster

Single-Make Trophy points leader claimed pole position by almost half a second over the Krenek Motorsport-run SEAT León of Andreas Pfister, but believes his pole lap could have been even faster if he’d used more tyres and not encountered traffic on his best lap.

The Serbian driver put his B3 Racing SEAT León on pole for the second time this season at Paul Ricard, setting his best time early on in the 30-minute session.

“I was more careful as I knew that this track was hotter than yesterday,” said Borkovic. “My plan was to push at the beginning and then see what the gap was, then I decided to wait and see if I could keep more tyres for tomorrow, and my plan was good.

“Even on my fastest lap I had to overtake a S1600 car so maybe I lost a few tenths.”

Borkovic has been on the front-row for the first two races of the season, but has always lost ground at the start, so far having taken both his victories in race two with the reversed grid race, but believes the characteristics of Paul Ricard may mean he won’t be outdriven off the line tomorrow.

“For the last two races I’ve had problems at the rolling start, because I’m a little bit heavier as I’m tall, and in Single-Make Trophy the weight is calculated without the driver, so this is an issue for me. But I think here, as there no long straight after the rolling start, so hopefully they will not pass me, but if they do I will try to pass them back. I’m a fighter and I will fight.”

By claiming pole position in Paul Ricard, Borkovic moves three points clear of Petr Fulín in the standings heading to tomorrow’s two races.
