Rob Huff disappointed but not angry with Demoustier for race-ending contact

Rob Huff’s race day at Paul Ricard lasted less than two corners when the Lada Sport Rosneft driver was eliminated from the first race on lap one, taking critical suspension damage in an incident with Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Grégoire Demoustier, which prevented the Briton from taking the start of race two.

Huff and Demoustier came together at Turn 2 in a tight squeeze through the corner, after Huff had qualified down in 16th position due to a suspension problem in qualifying, while Demoustier was starting from his career best on the grid in 11th.
“If I was a little bit unreasonable I could say it was totally his fault,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes. “But ultimately it was the start of the race and everybody was two-by-two and I can only assume he thought he wasn’t two-by-two and he just turned into the corner, and we’ve come off worse. It’s a shame, but that’s racing.

“(Gabriele) Tarquini had gone past him at the point and he’d obviously seen Tarquini, but hadn’t seen me some close. It’s a little bit on inexperience on his part, it’s frustrating, but we’ll be back.”
