Thed Björk unfazed by rivals closing in

Thed Björk had his first retirement since 2013 in the final STCC race of the weekend at Falkenberg with title rivals Fredrik Ekblom and Fredrik Larsson gaining on him in the championship. But the reigning champion remains unfazed ahead of the last three races.

”We had a tough weekend in Falkenberg, but those come sooner or later in racing and I still managed to score a podium and some vital points,” said Björk.

The three-time STCC champion has headed the championship since the first race in Skövde but had his lead reduced from 25 ahead of Falkenberg to just nine after.

”As I have said before, it is too early yet to be too worried about the points. I just keep my head down and get on with the business in each race weekend. It is all about scoring consistently and remain in the top, that is something I have achieved in all race weekends this year,” said Björk.

His Volvo Polestar Racing team mate Fredrik Ekblom is closest to him in the championship, with BMW rival Fredrik Larsson, whom he had a controversial clash with in Falkenberg, 20 points behind.

”The fight is tough and is going to be tough for the final three races, but that is something I like. The next two races, Karlskoga and Solvalla, are two of my favourite tracks which I am very much looking forward to,” said Björk.
