Teams gearing up for key Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton

Up to 25 cars from the current BTCC grid are set to take part in the official Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton tomorrow, with the series frontrunners assessing new compounds for the 2016 season.

Honda Racing Team, Team BMR, West Surrey Racing and Triple Eight Racing will each test the new construction of tyre, along with one other team which is yet to be decided.

Motorbase Performance will continue their build-up to their series return, running their two Ford Focus STs for Mat Jackson and James Cole, while Team BMR, West Surrey Racing and Honda Racing Team are scheduled to have a full quota of drivers.

Jack Goff, Rob Austin, Hunter Abbott, Adam Morgan and Simon Belcher are due to miss the test, while Power Maxed Racing will only be running one car.

As reported in Autosport, Dunlop are assessing a hard compound tyre as a possible replacement for the existing soft tyre. The wear rate of the soft tyre has come under fire from some quarters in 2015, most notably from Team BMR’s Jason Plato.

Dunlop has already introduced a new medium compound tyre this season, which ran for the first time at Oulton Park.
