STCC introduces penalty weights for final three races

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation has announced the introduction of penalty weights for the final three races of the 2015 season.

”The decision has been taken together with all STCC teams. The purpose of the change is to create an even more interesting product for the spectators with tougher and closer racing,” said Jonas Lundin, MD for STCC AB.

The top three of the championship along with the three best scoring drivers of the past race will be given penalty weights. The specific weights has not yet been revealed.

That means that Fredrik Larsson, Richard Göransson and Fredrik Ekblom will receive weight for scoring the most in Falkenberg while the same trio albeit with Göransson changed for championship leader Thed Björk will get weight for being in the top three of the championship.

”This decision is part of the development of the STCC class and another step, among many, in the improvement work of the STCC ahead of 2016,” said Lundin.

This is the first time since 2012 that penalty weights have been used in the STCC.
