Milenko Vukovic claims maiden victory in eventful second race

Milenko Vukovic claimed his maiden ADAC Procar victory in an eventful second race at the Salzburgring in Austria.

The race was interrupted by a spectacular crash between Kevin Hilgen Hovel and Jeremy Kruger, forcing the safety car out on track. Both drivers were cleared from the Medical Center after a mandatory check up.

As the race was restarted, Vukovic fought hard for the lead with championship leader Fredrik Lestrup. But the fight ended as Lestrup suffered a puncture two laps from the finish. The Swede drove the last laps with the puncture, dropping a lap on the leaders although still finishing fourth.

Vukovic brought his Renault Clio to victory close to 17 seconds ahead of Ford Fiesta driver Heiko Hammel in second and close to 29 seconds ahead of Franjo Kovac in third.

Division Two saw a tough fight for the lead between Andreas Rinke and Ralf Glatzel. It was no until the last lap that Rinke managed to claim the lead, crossing the finishing line just half a second ahead of Glatzel. The victory means a perfect weekend for Rinke with two class victories, pole positions and fastest laps.

Reigning Division Three champion Steve Kirsch claimed his eighth victory of the season with Bernhard Wagner in second place and Dirk Lauth in third.

Lestrup continues on top of the drivers’ championship in Division One with 77 points, 20 points more than Hammel in second place and 34 points more than Kovac in third.

Glatzel heads Division 2 on 66 points with Rinke in second on 54 points. Kirsch is on his own in Division 3 on 96 points, a full 43 points ahead of Wagner in second place.

The championship continues in three weeks at the Nürburgring.
