Audi celebrates being top manufacturer on wins so far this season

The 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season has just reached its half-way point, and Audi Sport congratulate themselves as the best manufacturer so far in terms of total victories.

Team Abt’s Edoardo Mortara achieved a commanding first victory of the season, which is also the fifth for the four-ring manufacturer. The Italian has dominated the weekend so far, having been fastest in all the sessions. Mortara was ecstatic with his victory, which he hopes will keep him in contention for the title: “When I’m in front I can control the race. My car was simply perfect today. I’m proud of this success and overjoyed. I’m hoping for this to continue to tomorrow.”

Fifth overall after a hard fought race was Team Abt Sportsline’s Mattias Ekström, who recovered from ninth on the grid, climbing one more position at the very last lap.

Mike Rockenfeller in eighth place and Adrien Tambay in tenth completed the Audi quartet scoring points, which allows the Ingolstadt manufacturer to remain at the front of the standings with 337 points, albeit with a reduced margin over Mercedes AMG.

The downside for Audi was Jamie Green’s retirement, due to a transmission failure. The Briton had to abandon the race on the second lap, and has now lost the lead of the Drivers’ table.

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Sport, was very satisfied to see his cars back on the winning track: “Obviously, we’re very happy about Edo’s dominant victory. All our cars were very fast in the race. That makes the retirement of Jamie Green, who could have made a major step forwards today, all the more frustrating. The transmission is a specification component in the DTM. We need to find out what the problem was and do everything within our means to prevent something like this from happening again.”

The DTM resumes tomorrow morning at 11:00 CEST (GMT + 2), for the 15-minute warm up session.
