Maximilian Götz thrilled with first DTM points

Mercedes AMG driver Maximilian Götz had a reason to celebrate today, after scoring his first ever points in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in Race 2 at the Red Bull Ring.

Götz was promoted from the Mercedes GT programme to the DTM this season, lining up with Mücke Motorsport. The rookie has had a tough season so far, but finished in eighth position this afternoon, scoring four points.

“I’m really pleased to have got this result”, Götz told TouringCarTimes. “For me, to leave the race that marks the first half of the season having managed to get points is really important, it means I have overcome many difficulties.”

Götz started from 12th place on the grid, after a competitive qualifying session. “Today I was able to go fast, I think the rain helped me. I really like this circuit, and the car performed very well, so I’m very happy for being able to get this result, also being in front of my team-mate, which is another important thing”, explained the number 84 driver.

The German driver from Mücke Motorsport was visited by his local fan club this weekend, who came out in force to be with him. Götz explained: “They come from a village in the mountains, and it was an honour to have them here with me. I’m very pleased I was able to get this result in front of them.”

Talking about the future, Götz hopes to have started an ascending road: “The DTM is a very professional and very competitive championship. We are all very close, and there is little difference between being in the top 10 or at the back. The car has been improving and I have been learning. These points are a big relief for me, so I hope to be able to focus in becoming better and continue to obtain results with Mercedes.”
