Chaz Mostert beats Mark Winterbottom to SMP race one win

Chaz Mostert beat Prodrive Racing Australia team mate Mark Winterbottom to victory in the first V8 Supercars race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The two were side by side for the first couple of corners before Mostert got ahead and pulled away to win by close to two seconds ahead of Winterbottom.

Reigning champion Jamie Whincup claimed his first podium finish since May but was close to seven seconds behind the Ford duo.

David Reynolds finished fourth but had to fight hard to keep Craig Lowndes behind.

Nissan Motorsport driver Rick Kelly made a strong start from eighth on the grid to finish sixth ahead of Andre Heimgartner and Scott McLaughlin.

Nick Percat and Dale Wood made contact early in the race with Wood spinning off to finish 24th. The stewards will investigate the incident after the race.
