Dusan Borkovic ready for ETCC title challenge after break

FIA European Touring Car Cup Single-Make Trophy points leader Dusan Borkovic is preparing for the final run of races in the 2015 ETCC after an extended mid-season break.

The Serbian, who drove in the opening round of the WTCC for Proteam before switching to an ETCC programme with the Hungarian B3 Racing team, has an 11 point lead over Krenek Motorsport’s Petr Fulín heading into the final three races, the next of which takes place on September 6th at Brno.

“I had a little rest but I used the break to prepare for the rest of the season with a lot of workouts,” said Borkovic. “I also got to drive on a few different tracks to stay in shape. I am communicating with my engineer every day considering my Hungarian B3 racing team is preparing a brand new SEAT León Racer.”

The Serbian is targeting securing the Single-Make Trophy crown, now the top class in terms of both performance and competition in this year’s ETCC, in advance of a potential return to an international class next season. The 30-year-old attended the Austrian round of the new TCR International Series at Salzburg in May, but has made it clear that the main goal is a return to the World Touring Car Championship for 2016.

“I have to be very wise to keep my advantage from the first half of the season,” he added. “Every point is important and I have to avoid unnecessary duels. Although I’m in the lead at the moment I’m sure that Pergusa race will determine the winner because of the double points. The biggest challenge for me is to get rid of psychological tension of being on the top.”
