“Lesson learnt” for Adam Morgan after Matt Neal steals Knockhill victory

Adam Morgan was pleased to take second in the final race at Knockhill, despite losing out on the last lap thanks to some errant debris on the circuit.

Morgan had led for the entire race before he picked up a fallen rear bumper on the front of his car, allowing eventual race winner Matt Neal to close the gap within a lap. The Ciceley Racing driver was managing the gap throughout the race, only to lose almost an entire second after picking up the debris.

“The last thing you expect to see going over the crest of the chicane is someone’s bumper,” Morgan told TouringCarTimes. “Up until then I was just about able to manage the gap to two tenths or so a lap but then I lost a whole second on that lap, which doesn’t sound a lot but in racing terms it’s a lot. I probably could have defended a bit better into the hairpin, lesson learnt there, but fair play to Matt that was a pretty decent move.”

Morgan struggled with the setup on his Mercedes-Benz A Class throughout the weekend, constantly making adjustments before finally finding the sweet spot in the final race, making losing out on the victory just that little bit harder to take.

“It’s been a very difficult weekend setup wise,” explained Morgan. “Since FP1 we’ve been adapting the car setup wise and we’ve been scratching our heads a couple of times as to why we couldn’t get it in the car. Massive thanks to my engineer Paul and all the mechanics, they’ve done a great job, that last race the car was pretty much on song.”

Heading in to the eighth round at Rockingham, Morgan, who now sits eighth in the points standings, will be hoping to continue his momentum into a circuit that wasn’t kind to the Ciceley team in 2014.

“It’s always nice to continue the momentum forward, I like Rockingham as a circuit, we had some pretty bad luck last year, hopefully we can get on, more points and move up the order.”
