Fredrik Lestrup victorious at the Sachsenring

Besaplast Racing driver Fredrik Lestrup took his eighth win from 11 races in the ADAC Procar Series in the Division 1 class at the Sachsenring, and is on course for the drivers’ title, which he can mathematically wrap up in race two tomorrow.

Lestrup secured pole position with a time six-tenths of a second faster than his closest rival Kai Jordan, and led from start to finish, controlling the field and winning the race with a margin of 21 seconds over Milenko Vukovic’s Renault Clio.

A safety car on lap three bunched the pack up after Dominique Schaak rolled his MINI John Cooper Works, but Lestrup was able to pull away when the race resumed.

“I saw the others behind me fighting and was able to extend my lead,” said Lestrup.

Kai Jordan, also in a MINI, and Vukovic came together, with Vukovic falling back to fourth, but was able to charge back up to second by the end of the race, finishing just ahead of Johannes Leidinger’s Ford Fiesta ST, despite damage to the rim and the geometry on his Clio.

“Not only the rim was broken, but the set-up was completely wrong,” remarked Vukovic. “The left-handers were very bad to drive through, but I have made the best of it.”

In Division 2, Andreas Rinke scored his fourth win of the season in the ETH Tuning Citroën Saxo, taking the lead from Ralf Glatzel’s Ford Fiesta 1.6 16v in the closing stages of the race with a pass in the slipstream of the Super 1600 class driver.

In Division 3, the MINI Challenge class, Steve Kirsch took his 11th victory of the season, now having won every race in the class, and now leads the standings by 60 points with only 50 remaining, winning the class five race weekends early. The class saw a guest appearance by World Touring Car Championship and TCR International Series regular René Münnich, who finished fourth in the class driving a privately entered MINI John Cooper Works.

The second race is scheduled for 15:25 CET on Sunday.
