Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline dominate Moscow warm-up

Audi Sport dominated this morning’s warm-up at the Moscow Raceway, host of the sixth round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Mattias Ekström set the fastest time, putting behind yesterday’s troubles.

The crews at Audi and Mercedes had a long and busy night, rebuilding the RS 5 DTMs and C63 DTM respectively of Mattias Ekström, Miguel Molina and Christian Vietoris. The cars were shining and ready for the morning warm up.

Cloudy skies and windy conditions welcomed the DTM drivers this morning. Rain, however, is not expected today.

Audi’s Nico Müller was the first one to set a reference time, but was rapidly improved by rookie Antonio Giovinazzi.

After their first run, drivers went back to the pits for the initial checks. The second stint saw many improvements and position changes, where the Audi Sport drivers had the upper hand.

Team Abt Sportsline proved fruitful the work from last night, with Mattias Ekström being fastest with a time of 1:28.664, immediately followed by his team-mate Miguel Molina, just 0.191 seconds behind. The Swede faces a 3-position drop for today’s grid after his collision with Timo Glock yesterday.

BMW’s Bruno Spengler was third, followed by Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller and Nico Müller.  Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein was sixth and best Mercedes, 0.385 seconds behind Ecky.

Jamie Green was seventh for Audi, followed by reigning champion Marco Wittmann. Edoardo Mortara and Adrien Tambay completed the top 10.

Christian Vietoris was 22nd in his Mercedes AMG C63 DTM. Once again, the field was very close, with all 24 drivers within 1.067 seconds.

Next for the DTM is qualifying for Race 2, starting at 12:25 CEST (GMT + 2).
