TCR Italy announced for introduction in 2016

ACI Sport, the motorsport branch of the Italian National Sporting Authorithy CSAI, has announced the introduction of TCR Italy in 2016.

“We believe in the potential of the TCR concept and are confident that this is a unique opportunity to revive the tradition of touring car racing in Italy. We will push a lot in promotion and we will offer prize money and benefits to the competitors. Just to give an example, we want to help the winner of the championship to take part the year after in the TCR International Series,” said ACI Sport CEO Marco Rogano.

The decision was announced at a meeting in Vallelunga between all teams competing in the Italian ACI Sport Racing Weekend.

The championship will run seven races in 2016 of which one will be held outside of Italy. The race format will include two 30-minute free practice sessions, one qualifying session split into two 15-minute sessions and two sprint races of 25 minutes plus one lap each.
