Gabriele Tarquini and John Filippi escape further penalties in Shanghai

The stewards at the tenth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship this weekend in Shanghai have issued “no further action” decisions for two incidents involving Gabriele Tarquini and John Filippi.

It wasn’t an easy weekend for Gabriele Tarquini. After his race 1 woes, which already earned him a penalty for next event, the Italian was also investigated for the opening stages incident with Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente in Race 2, which saw the Frenchman forced to retire after starting from the pole position. There were strong words between the pair after the race, and the matter was referred to the stewards of the meeting.

John Filippi had achieved his best qualifying of the year, starting Race 1 from eighth position on the grid. At the first corner, however, the Corsican spun, initiating a chain of braking and avoiding manoeuvres which ended with Tom Coronel hitting the Campos Racing driver. Damage on the Dutch’s Chevrolet was beyond repair for race two, putting a premature end to Coronel’s weekend.

After examining both incidents, the stewards have ruled that none of them require any further action.
