Alain Menu to replace injured Warren Scott at Brands Hatch

Alain Menu will replace the injured Warren Scott at Brands Hatch for the final round of the BTCC, Team BMR have confirmed.

Rumours that the two-time BTCC champion would be stepping back in to Volkswagen CC have been circulating since Scott suffered a back injury in free practice at Silverstone, forcing him to miss the remainder of the weekend.

Since his incident, Scott has seen sports injury specialist Brian Simpson in an attempt to make a return at Brands Hatch. However, following laser treatment, Scott visited a consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital and has been told he must spend a further six weeks in a back brace.

“I called Alain on Friday on my way back from hospital to invite him to drive as my replacement,” said Team BMR manager and driver, Scott. “I am absolutely gutted that I’m not going to be in the seat myself as it would have been a great end to an amazing year. Alain is the natural choice to replace me and I am very grateful to him for stepping in.”

“I am grateful to Warren and Team BMR for asking me to make a comeback in the BTCC at Brands Hatch,” said Menu, who knows the team’s Volkswagen well having competed for Team BMR in 2014, and continues to be a presence in the team garage this season as a driver coach for Scott. “The circumstances are unfortunate due to Warren’s injury from Silverstone and it’s going to be a big challenge to be competitive as I haven’t driven for a year, but at the same time I am excited to be back.”

Menu will return to the series with the #9 car, and will be looking to help the team secure the Team’ and Independent Teams’ titles while his team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington both go in to the final round fighting for the Drivers’ and Independent Drivers’ crowns.
