James Courtney confirmed to miss Bathurst 1000

Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney has been confirmed to miss the Bathurst 1000 race this weekend due to his injuries sustained in a freak accident at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this year.

“James suffered serious injuries in August’s incident, with the architecture concerning his rib and lung area severely damaged. While there has been significant betterment in the healing, and his pain has been abated and controlled, James has not been cleared to race this weekend. We have made this decision in the interests of James’ health and recovery,” said a medical spokesperson.

Courtney will be replaced by V8 Supercars veteran Russell Ingall, just as in the Sandown 500 race, who will join co-driver Jack Perkins in the Star Wars branded #22 Holden Commodore.

The 2015 Bathurst 1000 race weekend starts tomorrow with the first practice sessions.
