Outgoing champion Colin Turkington: “My day’s not over”

Outgoing BTCC champion Colin Turkington is still set on taking home some silverware from the 2015 season, despite dropping out of the title race in the second race of the day.

The Team BMR’s driver retired with a puncture on the final lap, a legacy of contact with former West Surrey Racing team-mate Rob Collard earlier in the race.

But the Northern Irishman still has a 17-point lead to defend in the independents’ championship, and is hoping to hold off team-mate Plato to retain that crown.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Turkington said: “The opening race was good and we had a solid result there. But we got damage on lap two [of race two] when Collard hit me on the front left tyre.

“I had a lot of toe-in which gave the tyre a really hard time over the race and it just popped on the last lap.

“But the day’s not over so I don’t want to talk too much yet.”
