Robert Dahlgren hoping to land WTCC Volvo drive next year

Robert Dahlgren is one of the longest-standing drivers in the Volvo family. The Swedish driver, who was also at the wheel of the C30 back in 2011 when the Swedish manufacturer did their evaluation season, is hoping to get the drive for next year.

“I’ve always dreamed of being World Champion,” admitted Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes. “It would be a dream to be involved in the championship in 2016, because that’s what I’ve been longing for ever since I joined the Volvo family.”

When reminded that he said in 2011 he would have stayed at Volvo as long as he believed it would compete in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, the driver said: “That is true, that’s because I want to win that tile. Hopefully I will be part of the line-up.”

Dahlgren talked about the feelings the S60 Polestar TC1 gives him when driving: “It just feels like a single seater. You can feel the aerodyinamics working, and it’s very precise, especially at the front. At the same time, it’s a proper touring car, and it is an absolute pleasure to drive.”

The Swede hopes his previous WTCC experience will help him land the drive: “I have been competing in the World Touring Car Championship in 2011 as an evaluation season with the Volvo C30. Hopefully it makes sense for Christian [Dahl] to draft me in and build on that experience. It would be exciting, but unfortunately I know nothing about that at the moment.”

Dahlgren recently competed in the V8 Supercars series in Australia.
